A week of firsts

A week of firsts

Weekly round up

View from my Sunday morning run

My second week of half marathon training and again I didn’t stick to the plan!

First run of the week was on Wednesday with my club. It was a ‘slow six’ running around the canals and reservoirs and mainly sticking to the shade. Even though it was an evening run it was still rather warm so the shade was very welcome. We did 6.47 miles in 1hour 9 mins and 56 seconds.

The second run of the week was my first ‘first’ of the week! My first Parkrun! A good 5k in 29:31.

My second ‘first’ came with my third run on Sunday. This was the first time I have run two consecutive days. It was a lovely morning with a cool breeze so I took the footpath through the fields and up some hills. My legs felt rather heavy and I struggled a bit but managed just over 5k in 36:06.

I think my legs will get used to running two days in a row, especially as I’ve now decided to change my half marathon plan so that I do a Parkrun on a Saturday followed by a longer run on Sunday. I’m still going to follow the book’s tips but this will fit in better with my club running, my pilates class and other things that come up during the week.

Have you followed a half marathon plan? Did you stick to it or deviate and how did it work for you?

How To Prevent Running Injury With This Simple Technique

Did you know that one of the most injury prone sports is running? More than rugby, or football, or cycling. In fact, research has estimated that between 30-75% of runners per year will get injured. Why is this? Part of me thinks it because it is so easy to go for a run most runners…
