I’ve called this a breakfast zinger smoothie as it is the perfect way to start your day.
This smoothie contains banana, melon, pineapple, ginger, orange juice and linseeds (also known as flax seeds). The ingredients give this smoothie a little kick and I find it really refreshing, especially after a run accompanied by peanut butter on toast or a bagel.
Linseeds, like all seeds, are fantastic powerhouses but what makes linseeds special is that they contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These essential fats help regulate cholesterol, allow fat soluable vitamins to be absorbed from your food and help maintain cell membranes. The only problem with linseeds is that they have a very hard shell, which is good for keeping all the nutrients in the seed, but makes it harder for us to get all the nutrients out of them! By blending the linseeds in this smoothie first, the hard shell is broken which allows your body to take all the nutrients it needs from these little seeds.
