Weekly Round Up: Strength for Runners week 5

Weekly Round Up: Strength for Runners week 5

Running Happy weekly round up

I had a week off from leading my running club this week as another leader volunteered to do it instead. Which was quite good as I had been out late on Tuesday attending a talk about England Athletic’s new website RunTogether and how it will help runners find groups and groups find runners.

I still ran on Wednesday though, can’t get out of the habit there! But it was much shorter and included a few 200m repeats. I haven’t done any speedwork for a while so it was good to get my legs ticking over, but I really found the last 50m hard going. It took me until my penultimate repeat to realise those last 50m were uphill! No wonder they were hard. Next time I run that stretch of road as a repeat I’ll make sure I run the other way.

Thursday was a double workout day. My work’s lunchtime running group consisted of just two of us for the second week running, although a different person from last time. We did a short 25 minute run and just missed the heavy rain that started soon after we finished. I also did my first workout of the week from Quick Strength for Runners.

On Saturday I ran off road on a route I hadn’t run for a while. It was a really crisp day, just perfect for a run, and not too muddy underfoot either which is a bonus.

On Sunday morning I did the second work out from Quick Strength for Runners, which was another hard work out but set me up for the rest of the day. I find the sections for the upper body quite hard. My push ups are improving though, which is good. It may sound silly to have a goal of one full push up but for me that would be a huge improvement. I’m doing most of mine as modified push ups on my knees and when I’ve tried the full push ups I can only go half way down. So if by the end of the 8 weeks I can get one full push up done I’d be really impressed!

How was your week? Any nice views from your runs?

  1. One full push up would be an accomplishment for me as well. It bothers my elbows to do a traditional push up! I saw your I/G picture and thought it was so lovely. I was able to run underneath the Super Moon one morning this week. It was amazing. I hope your work running group numbers will increase each week. They must not know how lucky they are to have you coaching them. Thanks for linking, Nicola.
